May It Be

When I was driving out to the east coast in September, I was working on this song, “May It Be.” Little did I know it would be a sort of lifeline for me on the way home. You see, I got Covid in the Outer Banks, about 2,000 miles from home in NM! As I was driving back, 1,600 miles of which were with Covid in full bloom, I kept working on the bridge, perfecting it! I had perfected the chorus on the way east. I must have sung that song 1,000 times - it is burned into my brain! It is a lovely song, I think, and the bridge and the last verse and the last chorus go like this:

We stumble, then we grow,
Fight hard for what we know,
To set you free,
Same for me,
May it be,
So.

Through distance and through time,
I'll hold you in my arms,
Can't keep you from your fears,
Protect you from the harms,
And, maybe in an instant,
Your dreams get swept away,
And, maybe in a moment,
Big changes break your sway.

May it be, may it be,
The path to a new way,
May it be, may it be,
The light from a new day,
May it be, may it be,
The seed in the sun's ray,
May it be, may it be,
I've been there and I can say…

May it be.

(More about why this is my current theme song, later!)
